Note sent to Mark Dixon, Gregg's oldest son and his responseDear Stuart,Thank you for reaching out! I am Gregg's first son, Mark. I truly appreciate your shared memories of Gregg, and yes, his oboe playing was certainly a notable part of his life. I apologize it wasn't mentioned in the obituary, but we love to hear him play when he was still able. Indeed, I'm listening to the Marriage of Figaro now at your suggestion. If you have any other pieces that you suspect he fondly remembered, I'd love to know those as well.It has been quite a tearful, yet joyful experience to communicate with family and friends about my father's death. Notes like yours make it all the more worthwhile. Thank you! With deep appreciation,Mark---

Gregg and I shared many classes together. I, of course, remember him for his gift in math and science. During my service time at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, I am an ophthalmologist, a mutual friend, Greg Levin, visited Washington. He had been in contact with Gregg, and we all met for dinner at a Northern Chinese Restaurant in Bethesda. . This was shortly after Nixon opened up China and Northern Chinese cooking became the rage. In fact, it was first time with moo sho pork. I am assuming that Valarie may remember this dinner. It was a great reunion.
I am also assuming that you are Gregg’s son? In any event, I have another fond memory of Gregg. I noticed in the obituary there was no mention of Gregg’s oboe playing. When we played in the high school band together, we performed the Mozart: Marriage of Figaro Overture. There is a prominent oboe figure followed by a clarinet motif. To this day when I hear this overture, I think of Gregg’s playing with the fondest of memories.
Our last meeting was at one of the recent reunions. We were able to communicate even though Gregg was in a weak state. I will always remember his warmth, kindness, accomplishments and friendship, and of course, his musical skills.
I am sure that he made a positive impact on all who knew him. He is missed.
