I went to Johns Hopkins, then the Peace Corps to Kenya. Diane Kewley joined me there and we married in Nairobi. Eventually settled in at Indiana Univ, Bloomington. All 3 of our children live near us. Nicholas is married with 2 girls and is on the faculty at Indiana Univ where Diane and I have both spent most of our academic careers. Juliet is a geology consultant in Indianapolis and will marry next October. Cynthia is a social worker and directs Religious Education at our Unitarian-Universalist Church. Diane and I live in the woods near town and sail a 26' boat on Lake Monroe.
My research area has been phonetics, the nature of the sound system of human languages.

I only attended Shaker my senior year, moving from Cleveland Heights in summer 1960. I enjoyed Mr Bresnicki's Latin class and his delightful reading aloud from `Winnie Ille Poo'.
